What Points Should Be Considered During the Plasticization Process of Barrels and Screws?

May 06, 2026

There are two primary processing methods for the plasticization of barrels and screws: heat treatment and nitriding. Therefore, what specific points should be kept in mind when carrying out these two treatments?

What Points Should Be Considered During the Plasticization Process of Barrels and Screws?
1. Verify whether colorants have been added to the raw material being fed into the barrel and screw, and ensure that the temperature settings align with the specific properties of the material. Additionally, when using a new machine, be cautious of residual oil present inside the barrel.

2. Perform regular cleaning. The specific procedure involves detaching the screw head (nozzle tip) and using a flame to burn off any residual material adhering to it. If this method is deemed too cumbersome, the screw head may simply be replaced with a new one.

3. When processing PC (polycarbonate) materials, a specialized barrel and screw assembly must be used to prevent corrosion of the screw, which could otherwise lead to the generation of "black spots" or carbonized material.

4. Ensure that the raw material conveying pipelines are free of static electricity. Static charges can cause black spots to appear in the finished products, thereby compromising the quality of the plasticized output.

5. Regularly inspect the quality and condition of the heating elements (heater bands). When raw materials undergo melting and plasticization inside the barrel and screw-particularly at high processing temperatures-substandard heating elements can significantly impair the effectiveness and quality of the plasticization process.
